Dish Network Completes the Switch to Nagravision 3
 

Well it looks like all channels have completely blacked out on the dish network as of 4:40PM Eastern Standard Time, and with that, the era of Nagravision 2 has come to a close after almost a 4 year run.

I remember the day that Nagravision 2 was hacked, so vividly as if it was yesterday. I was at a bar with a couple friends, approaching last call around 4am, no more than a month after I bought this great site, which I only did so with the hunch and a little inside information that Nagravision 2 would be fully compromised. I received a phone call, from who many of you know as thedssguy who used to be a big part of this website with him screaming at me, "they did it, Coolsat released Nagravision 2 files, Nagravision 2 is done, it's hacked! Get the fuck home! Get on the damn site and get to work!". And thats what I did. Probably too drunk to drive, or maybe just too excited, I got in my beater 1994 oldsmobile with "break on through" by the doors blasting, it was at least a 10 minute drive from the bar in normal conditions, but somehow I got home before the song was over, I stayed awake for the next 40 hours with the coffee maker continuously refilling the pot, and that is probably one of the most memorable days of my life and how the best years yet of HashHU began. Within months HashHU rose to the forefront of the FTA community, becoming the busiest site of them all thanks to the many great helping hands from our mod crew. At that point we had 85,000 members, Today we are 300,000 strong.


Now, just under 4 years down the line from that day, September 1st 2005, we are at a crossroads. Has Nagravision 3 been hacked? Right now, we do not know. There is way too much money floating around in the FTA business for it not to be, unless the security is comparable to US Military technology (well shit, even china cracked that!). There are many forthcoming reports of Nagravision 3 bin files working wide open on Nagravision 3 encrypted channels such as captiveworks and viewsat. These are unconfirmed reports and we do not know what to make of them yet. There are reports of hacks coming out of europe, and several coders saying they are watching full emulation on atmega boards, which work almost identically to FTA receivers. Over the last few months while Nagravision 3 cards have been surfacing in North America there have been numerous confirmed card compromises reported. There was a story about an underground smart card lab in Texas that Viewsat invested heavily in and was doing the same work that it reportedly took to open Map57 about 3 years ago, reports that they were getting Nagravision 3 channels with some freezing issues, and that some bugs had to be worked out before the fix became public. This came from the same source that told me 4 years ago that Nagravision 2 was hacked, the reason for which I bought this site, long before it came to light to the general public.

For now, IKS is the option of choice for some, but I say hunker down for a few weeks if nothing comes to light sooner before you buy IKS, you may just be able to find a cheaper solution to your lack of TV woes right now. There is a bit of information that I will pass along about IKS in the meantime. Dish Network and Bell ExpressVu have stated in sealed court documents north of the border that they have absolutely no countermeasures against IKS, and they will be losing money for years to come off so called satellite pirates if these boxes are not made illegal to import. This may very well be the future of FTA as we know it, but for now I'm going to put my money on the traditional methods and wait for something to come out, which it inevitably will.

It was fun while it lasted. My parents got a Pansat 2700 right before N2 came to the scene, and I told myself to hold off since I new the switch was soon. They were up watching TV and I was kicking myself.

RIP N2, and lets hope for a quick reliable non-IKS solution for N3

It's funny how we have all drifted in and out of this silly hobby for the strangest of reasons. For most users seeing my name posted here, and some of the off the wall questions and posts delivered, one would never know of the accomplishments made by others.

There was a time (not THAT long ago) when we were all tubed due to hits on HU cards that caused a looped condition. Once this occurred, you were pooched. It was a group of five fellows arguing over NTN trivia that sat down on the nights we could get away from the wives..... And we eventually worked out this unlooping issue. Although not rocket science. There was many hours put into this. I share this little memory for two reasons. First, to qualify my remarks and give you a small background on where this is coming from, second, I've been there.

The math that is involved with this N3 issue is serious stuff. If this comes to light that it will open to us it will involve either of the following. A HUGE bribe. (Some guy in the know with an affinity for houses on the french riviera)will cave in on information allowing this to be open.

The guys working on this get hit by lightning, get an offer to screw Elle MacPherson, and hit the powerball all on the same day. The odds are crazy this will happen.

I have it... On reliable sources (They've never lied yet)that I've dealt with for over 14 years, they claim they've seen it. They claim nFusion is up and going. We argued it out, their side, my side... either backed down. So for what it's worth. I hope everyone makes out good. Watch out for scammers. Never send Ca$h for ANYTHING.

same here.. OTA.. has a chance to compete now with additional channels and some seem to be trying to make use of it... each off air having at least 2 digital channels.. and just a cheap $30 uhf antenna will work...!

Well, it was a great run while it lasted. And to think that this testing experience started for me with a guy that bought a Microyal and said it did not worked! I searched, searched, seached, then read, and read until I got the little box working! Great experience, a lot of learning. I no longer had my Microyal box anymore bot got three VS's, hooked up tp a multi-switch and but did we had fun! I never though I was going to be able to do that stuff, but I did! I stumble on this side by accident (Typo), and it is a great knowledge site for testers. As a funny note, I connected my D**H 301 box last night and on channel 100, I can see all the channel windows and a message on teh screen: "Channels are locked"! I do have the new card (N3) in and got this message! All teh channels stated that "your subscription card is not authorized to view this channel! I even got that with channel 100! That never happened to me while testing FTA's!
