What is IKS?

IKS is an abbreviation for "Internet Key Sharing"

Basically you connect to a server that uses a subscribed Card.

The information from a subbed card is shared with others connected to the server VIA the internet.


The pro's of course is that you receive programing you would normally have to pay for.

You can also set up your very own private IKS server and host your personal friends and family.


The cons?

Connecting directly to a public IKS server leaves your IP address. This MIGHT get you sued depending on how far the providers want to take it.

NO ONE can speculate what the providers may or may not do.

I would rather be safe than sorry.


OK lunavic so with that being said your basicaly saying I have a few options here?


YES

Option 1:

Is to take a risk and conect directly to public IKS servers. (its up to you just a matter of... Do you feel lucky? Well do you?) Tottaly your choice but know that your IP IS logged and the providers MIGHT one day use that information against you. Its yous choice.

Option 2:

If your a savvy sorta person you can just build this.... (it works well)

Point at the airport or any public wifi hotspot and safely connect to public IKS servers. You might want to spoof or change your mac address if you have used the computer to connect to the internet from your own ISP.



Option 3:

You can set up your IKS device to use a proxy. The only con with this is...

The general concensus is, proxies work, they are a lot of trouble to keep working as the free ones work only temporarily. If they are any good at all then many peeps start using them. This causes delays in the proxie relaying the data required to keep your nfusion stb from freezing.

Alternativly you could pay for a proxie and get somthing more usefull.

That being said, this hobbie is all about testing....go for it and if you find a working proxi that is free you can share?

Option 4: (my personal favorite)

You CAN set up your very own private IKS card share. You can be the "guy"

Your friends and family will be in awe of your technical prowess... You choose who you want on your network and you all share the cost.
Very safe. The only way your gonna get in troulble with this one is if YOU let a rat on your server.. Also I dont advise you making your private server public information..



Anyways There ya go. Its all up to you as to how safe you want to be.

Why take a risk that can so easily be eliminated.

Use IKS .. Its a great thing.. Just do it safely and wisely. .

5 people split a subscription, each person takes 1 reciever and 1 card home with them. if more recievers are needed, a private card share network can be set up at home with no internet connection required.

in every option, user safety is dependant on who you can trust.

Its easy


You are either going to throw caution to the wind and directly connect to a public IKS server , or ,,, your gonna take some easy steps and do it safely and anonymously.


Its YOUR choice.... Why take ANY risk when you dont have to.

ok everyone keeps saying that iks is sharing a paid for sub....well can someoen answer me why in the list of channels forthe nfusion does the pirate channel show up ? If it was a paid for sub you would not see that , is that not correct ?

I don't know if it will show up on a subbed IRD or not ...

but you can still view that channel using any FTA unit ... so it will always show up in a channel scan ...

Thats good question indeed.

Now its known that they use multiple subs to accomplish what they do ...

Do not waist your time Luna.
Pirate channels are open. Of course, they are not visible on dish equipment, cause channel list is downloaded to dish receiver, and it is without that channel in it.

not this is extremely interesting... my neighbor doesnt have that channel on his kbox... And no you dont get that channel with a sub.. I ran plastic for years, and even with hacked plastic that channel is there, and its suppose to be there to warn people of what they are doing... That channel is definatly not there on a subed card...

but on the other hand, how often did that guy rescan his channels.. that could of been there since the n2 days without deleting the channels and rescaning those channels will stay.

ok i am going to ask a question to luna.... Seriously, do you really think these fta dealers are going to put there server without any encryption on it, so dish could easliy access it.. They are the main fish, And in order to get access to there server, warrents have to be issued, and believe me, as soon as the warrent gets issued there will be alerts all over the net...I do understand what your saying, kind of risky putting eveything in the hands of the fta guys and you guys are right... But this is my opinion,, I think the providers would be more intested in getting the server and taking everyone down, then to just go after the panfrys... Never the less, iks is risky,, yes it is, and for everyone that just wants to hear its as safe as a church well then guess what,, get yourself a sub..safest way to go.. I do like your topic because it has no bash on anything, your points were good on the pros and cons of iks.. As well newbies should know what they are getting into.. But some people on this site, not giving names are constantly telling horror stories... Remember testing is testing, and if someone wants to test thats there choice..

Well what would be really interesting to know is if the Pirate Channel is showing on Echostar receivers running the Slinger? Reason being is that would debunk the theory of the channel only showing up on FTA receivers. Now if the Pirate Channel is in fact showing up in the guide of an Echostar receiver then that could suggest that they in fact are running an open Cam as opposed to a shared subbed card. We might have an answer to this in December if Nfusion does indeed come through with open PPV..etc..

i totally agree with you, that channel is put there mainly to tell the user he is encrypting the signal...

Well to me its just common sense. If you can do anything to make something safer for you to use arent you going to do it?

Piece of mind is all I want people to have.

I think the concept of IKS is a great thing. Its just up to the user to decide if its worth the little time in reading , and doing to protect himself.

Ill tell ya this too... Im thinkin about it.. But I WILL be pointed at a wifi hotspot three or more kilometers away from my house. Call me paranoid or whatever. I think no risk is always the better way to go. Besides thats what Ive always loved best about the hobby , the building and , the doing. Im a tinkerer. I enjoy it.

When push comes to shove and IF these dealers or server owners get nailed YOU will be used as a bargaining chip for THEM to keep what they can. You just have to look out for #1. They most certainly will. Its not hard to do.
